I've had an impulse to buy a SUV for off roading lately. I was thinking that Colorado is one of the best places in the world for off roading. There is a chance I won't live here in the future, so it would seem like a waste not to take advantage of our awesome trails. I have a little knowlegde of off roading, but I am by no means an expert
I've mainly been looking at Land Rovers and the Discovery seems like the best option. Then this came along:
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . It has just over 100,000 miles (less than I've normally seen) and it has some off road modifications. Asking $4200. What makes it special is the story behind it.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Most of you probably don't know this, but northern Colorado was hit hard by floods last fall (specifically Fort Collins and Loveland). Luckily I wasn't affected, but I-25 was flooded about 10-15 miles from me.
However, this Disco is for sale in Glen Haven. Glen Haven is a very small town about 30 minutes into the mountains and located right on the Big Thompson River. Damage there was some of the worst around. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
The main road was damaged as you can see, but not entirely washed away. Further down stream (closer to civilization), the road collapsed and fell into the river, blocking all traffic to and from the town. The injured were evacuated via National Guard helicopters.
According to the seller, they bought this Disco so they could access their home. With all the damage caused by the flood, this is probably true. They say the reason they are selling is that the roads are now repaired, which is also true.
So to recap, this Disco is the car I want, with the modifications I want, and has a special story behind it. I don't know too much about prices of these, but I made more money this summer than their asking price, so I could technically/realistically buy it.
What do you think, NPoCP? Should I pull the trigger?

The sensible in me says buy a 4Runner or Land Cruiser, but the part of me that knows I should have gotten a Range Rover when I had a chance says buy it.

I would buy in a heartbeat if that is what I wanted. Just the accessories are almost the value of the asking price.

If you want a disco with all those accesories do it. They are capable and can get you pretty much anywhere when they work correctly. The only thing I would suggest is to replace that spare with a matching tire of the ones on there. different diameter tires on a 4x4 will fuck your diffs up royally and ruin your day completely, not to mention your wallet. But shit I'd buy that for that price. I say do it but still since it is a landy, be prepared for work.

NP - it looks like it's in decent condition, it has lower miles for its age, and it's got a ton of mods. I say do it!
Take it to a competent LR garage for inspection and go in to the purchase with your eyes wide open. You already know it needs a mirror and some brakes. And as was already mentioned, get a matching spare.

That roof rack is about $1000 new, and that front bumper is worth at least 600 plus the winch. As we all know, modified cars are not necessarily worth the sum of their parts, but it's still a darn good price.

If you're looking for a Disco, I've got mine up for sale! Well, it's not listed on anywhere because I really don't want to let it go. I've only put it up on here and a Rover forum. Don't want to sell it to some kid who's gonna throw 16" rims on it and ruin my baby. Maybe $9,000. I don't know, writing this post makes me want it still.

We lived east of Fort Collins in Timnath for 3 years. I regret now not getting an off roader to go explore in during the fall/winter before the snow got too deep on the mountains.
